Paddi takes MRT Cup 2011/12 title in style

If anyone had any doubt that Paddi deserved to win this edition of the MRT Cup, he took those doubts away. At Kyoto North the champion elect qualified on pole, took fastest lap in both races and grabbed victory in the sprint and main races. More than enough to take the title as Paddi wins the MRT Cup with 56 points ahead of just.papax. 6th Tipsu finished third in the championship and, together with Chrono and Henry helped his team take victory in the team championship at the final round.

Congrats to Paddi and 6th!

Paddi and 6th take championship lead

RAPTOR | Paddi missed out on pole in qualifying, but that was the only miss in an almost flawless event for the German. In both races the RAPTOR driver quickly took the lead and despite not getting a big margin, he took victory in both races unchallenged. With his performance it is no surprise that he changes his one points deficit to Xcite C.Winkler into a 19 point championship lead. C. Winkler limited the damage with a second place in the main race and will look for a way to get the lead back in the final round at Kyoto North. SRT Flip and just.papax also still are in contention in 3rd and 4th in the standings.

For the battle in the team championship, 6th send in an armada of cars that helped them score points with the two best finishers in both races. PLZ failed to do so in the sprint race, costing them the lead in the team standings. However, with only one point between 6th and PLZ, and PLZ consistently showing a better speed, 6th will need to do more than just send as many cars as possible to get the team trophy in the final round of the season.

Past MRT Cup winners dominate at Aston

RAPTOR | Paddi and Xcite C. Winkler have both emerged as winners from the opening round of the MRT Cup 2011/12. At Aston Cup, an open layout that combines much of Club with Cadet, Paddi qualified on pole and took the checkered flag unchallenged in the sprint race. C. Winkler was the clear winner of the main race after a lap 1 incident dropped back some of the favorites, including Paddi and Feuerdrache. Paddi did fought back to second place. After one race in the championship C. Winkler leads the way just one point ahead of Paddi. Both have won the Cup before, C. Winkler being the reigning champion and Paddi taking the title in the 2008/09 edition, and it looks like they will be fighting for who gets his second cup victory first.

Anyone who wants to challenge those for their victory will need to step up at Fern Bay Cadet. You can register for the next round at the upcoming event until 17:00 CET on race day. Don't forget to also set a time on our training server.

OWRL MRT Cup brings joy after Christmas

While many may be in the mood for Christmas, we are looking forward to when that is over, as that means we get to compete in the MRT Cup. This OWRL tradition starts right after Christmas and takes us into the new year. We found three open layouts that look exciting to race on. The season starts at Aston Cup, a combination from Club and Cadet, then moves to Fern Bay Cup which gives the Club layout a bit extra lenght and variety. The winner of the cup will be decided at the infield of Kyoto, as Kyoto North is our first 2012 event.

The OWRL started in 2004 as a MRT only league. Since S2 it has expanded to use all formula cars available in LFS, but the end of year competition remains reserved for the MRT5. The last edition of the MRT Cup was won by Xcite C. Winkler.

Race Director declares TEM/Y.Laprevotte race winner at FE Gold

TEM/Y.Laprevotte has been declared race winner at the final round of S2 Season 19. He wasn't the first to cross the line on track, even though he only followed within seconds, but V.Pitkänen sealed his fate after not serving a drive through penalty he had received after the previous round within the first three laps. With the victory, Laprevotte claimed enough points together with his teammate to overtake the absent 3id team for the team championship. Congrats Tiger Express! He also won the fight for second place in the drivers championship. leaving [SR]bLb and SRT Wasrun behind him.

The race at Fern Bay Gold turned out to be an endurance event, with the full top four of qualifying not finishing the event. Y.Laprevotte had a difficult start of the race, falling back from 5th to 7th, but fought his way back to the front, not by being overly aggressive, but by keeping his car on track and setting a consistent pace once his rivals gave him the space. As it happened, Laprevotte got out in front after his pitstop, ahead of V.Pitkänen who also did not obey the rule that all four tires should be changed at the mandatory pitstop. After the race director had rearranged the order, pod.Krutch finished in second place despite having to pit early to repair damage sustained in an incident with another driver. [TR] Rony drove a consistent pace and is rewarded with his third podium finish this season and fifth in the overall standings.

As we wrap up this season, 3id J.Lehikoinen wins another driver title whilst Tiger Express Motorsports takes its first team championship in the OWRL. Thanks to all who participated and helped to make this a clean and enjoyable season of open wheel racing!

S2 Season 19 concludes tonight at Fern Bay Gold

The championship may be decided, but there is still plenty to race for tonight the final race of S2 Season 19. Not least who can take race victory on a classic OWRL combination. The Formula V8 is like a fish in the water on the fast corners at Fern Bay Gold. Qualifying is important at this track but overtaking is possible if one is dedicated. If it doesn't happen on track, it can in the pits as in the race, a pitstop with a 4 tyre change is mandatory.

M.Wentjärvi takes race victory as J.Lehikoinen is crowned champion

LLL M.Wentjärvi has won in round 5 in S2 Season 19. On Aston Grand Prix, Wentjärvi took victory after starting second and overtaking his two teammates in the pit stop phase. Polesitter Cq| Gargi got involved in a first lap incident and fell back, allowing LLL to fill all three podium positions. Second to cross the finish line was long time race leader A.Terzić and third was S.Cattell.

Not taking part in this round was 3id J.Lehikoinen but that did not stop him from taking the drivers championship. Under the points rules in the S2 seasons. a drivers worst result is scrapped. This meant that Lehikoinen still got a massive amount of points added to his tally, enough to be crowned champion for the third season in a row. Congratulations! The fight for second in the championship is on though, as TEM Y.Laprevotte overtook [SR] bLb and now has to defend a 15 points lead. In the team championship, 3id is clearly ahead of TEM but will need to make sure they keep their points lead in the final round to finally take the team title.

Update: There was a mistake in calculating the worst results for some of the drivers that lead to a wrong total points for those. The driver standings have been corrected. This had led to some position changes in the top 10, but no major changes in the championship. The team championship standings is not affected.
